Smartphone App Allows Parental Monitoring and Time Controls

Curtailing teens’ late night texting sessions just got a whole lot easier!

guardian-appVodafone offers parents a new tool to keep their child safe while using smartphones. If your student owns an Android phone, you can download the Vodafone Guardian app as means of encouraging safe and responsible use.

Here are some capabilities of the app:

  • block specific contacts or numbers to prevent bullying
  • restrict outgoing calls to named contacts, such as Mum, Dad, Nana, or specific friends
  • specify times when the child can make or receive calls, use apps, access the Web and use the camera.

Jane Burns, CEO of the Young & Well Cooperative Research Centre, says the app is a first in Australia. “It is not a silver bullet and it is not going to solve all the problems but this app is a good conversation starter about setting parameters.”

The app’s use as a tool to fight cyberbullying is especially welcome. To see more on this Android app, check out the Vodafone website.
